Continuous Limit of Multiple Gravitational Lens Effect and Averaged Magnification Factor

چکیده
We show that the gravitational magnification factor averaged over all configurations of lenses in a locally inhomogeneous universe satisfy a second order differential equation with redshift z by taking the continuous limit of multi-plane gravitational lens equation (the number N of lenses → ∞) and that the gravitationally magnified Dyer-Roeder distance in a clumpy universe becomes to that of the Friedmann-Lemâıtre universe for arbitrary values of the density parameter Ω0 and of a mass fraction ᾱ (smoothness parameter).

متن کاملContinuous Limit of Multiple Lens Effect and the Optical Scalar Equation
We study the continuous limit of the multiple gravitational lensing theory based on the thin lens approximation. Under the approximation, we define a new, light-path dependent angular diameter distance d̃ and show that it satisfies the optical scalar equation. The distance provides relations between quantities used in the gravitational lensing theory (the convergence-, the shearand the twist-ter...

Aims. To investigate the effect of gravitational lensing of supernovae in large ongoing surveys. Methods. We simulate the effect of gravitational lensing magnification on individual supernovae using observational data input from two large supernova surveys. To estimate the magnification due to matter in the foreground, we simulate galaxy catalogs and compute the magnification along individual l...
متن کاملQuasi-geometrical Optics Approximation in Gravitational Lensing
Abstract. The gravitational lensing of gravitational waves should be treated in the wave optics instead of the geometrical optics when the wave length λ of the gravitational waves is larger than the Schwarzschild radius of the lens mass M. The wave optics is based on the diffraction integral which represents the amplification of the wave amplitude by lensing. We study the asymptotic expansion o...
متن کاملA Decision between Bayesian and Frequentist Upper Limit in Analyzing Continuous Gravitational Waves
Given the sensitivity of current ground-based Gravitational Wave (GW) detectors, any continuous-wave signal we can realistically expect will be at a level or below the background noise. Hence, any data analysis of detector data will need to rely on statistical techniques to separate the signal from the noise. While with the current sensitivity of our detectors we do not expect to detect any tru...
